52 people from Syria and Palestine found hidden in two vehicles

Romanian border guards at the Nadlac II Border Crossing Point have spotted fifty-two Syrian and Palestinian citizens trying to cross the border into Hungary illegally, hidden in a truck and van. The drivers of the means of transport, who supported the foreign citizens in the criminal activity, are being investigated for migrant trafficking.

At the Border Crossing Point Nădlac II – Csanadpalota, Arad County, a 57-year-old Turkish citizen showed up for the border formalities on the way out of the country. The driver was driving a road assembly, consisting of a tractor and a semi-trailer, registered in Romania and transporting, according to the documents accompanying the goods, textile rollers on the route Romania – Germany.

Following the specific risk analysis, the border guards proceeded to carry out a thorough control of the means of transport. Thus, inside the freight car were discovered, hidden in the cargo compartment, twenty-eight foreign nationals.

During the first checks, the border police established that the persons in question are citizens of Syria and Palestine, twenty-five men, aged between 18 and 43 years and 3 minors aged between 13 and 17 years.

Also this morning, at the same border point, a similar case was registered. Another 44-year-old Turkish citizen showed up to leave the country, driving a van registered in Turkey. According to the documents accompanying the goods, the driver was transporting textile rollers on the Turkey – Germany route.

The border guards carried out a thorough control of the means of transport, and inside the van were discovered, hidden in the cargo compartment, twenty-four foreign citizens.

The people were taken and transported to the headquarters of the PF Nădlac Sector for investigations, where, following the verifications, the border police established that the group consisted of 24 men from Syria, aged between 18 and 48 years.

The foreign nationals found hidden in the two means of transport stated that they intended to cross the border illegally in order to reach the countries of Western Europe.

In both cases, the border guards are investigating the violation of the state border regime against the hidden foreign nationals found, respectively in terms of committing the crime of migrant trafficking for Turkish drivers, at the end of which the necessary legal measures will be ordered.
