Efficient Romanian-Moldovan cooperation: Six people stopped at Prut before illegally entering Romania

Following information promptly transmitted by the border authorities of the Republic of Moldova, border police officers from the Rădăuți Prut Border Police Sector intervened promptly and efficiently, in a coordinated action carried out on both banks of the Prut River.

As a result of this cross-border collaboration, a group of six people of Afro-Asian origin was detected attempting to illegally cross the state border from the Republic of Moldova to Romania, by crossing the Prut River.

Following the checks carried out, our officers determined that the individuals are Afro-Asian citizens (Sri Lanka and Iraq). They stated that they intended to reach a state in Western Europe.

During the same operation, Romanian border police managed to identify and detain two men who were going to pick up Afro-Asian citizens with the aim of transporting them to Western Europe.

The two men, Romanian citizens, were caught while waiting in a car parked near the Prut River to pick up the Afro-Asian citizens, to whom they had previously sent their coordinates by phone.

The prompt intervention of the Romanian border guards was possible thanks to an efficient exchange of information and a high level of coordination between the structures responsible for border surveillance and security in the two states, reflecting the firm commitment of both parties to combating illegal migration and maintaining order and security at the common border.

Border police continue investigations into the crimes of fraudulent crossing of the state border and migrant smuggling, and the Moldovan authorities took over the migrants under the readmission agreement.

The action reconfirms the importance of cross-border collaboration in managing common challenges and strengthens the strategic partnership between law enforcement institutions in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
