Meeting of Chiefs of Border Police Services in Belgrade, Serbia

Meeting of Chiefs of Border Police Services, organised by DCAF Ljubljana in cooperation with the Police Directorate of the Republic of Serbia within the framework of a project granted by the GIZ, took place from 11 to 13 December 2019.

The meeting brought together border police senior management national representatives of DCAF Border Security Programme (BSP) Beneficiary Countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, and Serbia), EU countries (Croatia and Slovenia) with the relevant partner organisations (Europol, Frontex and Interpol).

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the recent developments in the Western Balkan Region and acute threats to security which the Region is facing and to agree on the future focus of engagement within the DCAF Border Security Programme, relating to enhancement of Region’s capacities for addressing the acute security situation.

The meeting provided an opportunity to present the results of DCAF BSP’s support to the enhancement of BSP Beneficiaries’ operational capacities and present the results of concluded common operational measures and observations related to the necessary future improvements. The participants were also introduced to the results of the Regional risk analysis workshop, the Workshop on planning of common operational measures and activities falling within area of illicit trafficking of cultural goods.

The dates and venues for the Common and Coordinated Operations in the Western Balkan Region in 2020 were agreed.
