Polish Border Guard Unit detained 10 foreigners

Officers from the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit detained 10 foreigners who did not have documents entitling them to enter and stay in Poland and attempted to illegally cross the Polish-German border. Together with them, 2 people who assisted them in committing the crime were detained.

On Friday (March 17), officers from the Border Guard Post in Zgorzelec stopped a passenger car with Polish registration numbers on one of the roads leading to the border with Germany (Zgorzelec poviat). The driver of the vehicle was a 56-year-old citizen of Ukraine, who, as it turned out, helped 4 citizens of Afghanistan to get from Poland to Germany. According to the foreigners’ statements, they arrived in Poland in March this year. and they wanted to get to Germany right away. A detained Ukrainian was to provide them with a quick ride on this route for 1,500 dollars. The foreigners had Afghan passports, but they did not have documents entitling them to enter and stay on the territory of Poland and to cross the state border. They were detained and alternative measures were applied to them. On the other hand, a citizen of Ukraine, who admitted to helping 7 foreigners of Arab origin (including 4 citizens of Afghanistan) in crossing the Polish border contrary to the regulations, voluntarily submitted himself to the penalty of 1 year of imprisonment with a conditional suspension of the execution of the sentence for a period of 3 years probation. In addition, he was fined 6,000 rubles. and forfeiture of the proceeds of crime in the amount of $1,500.

Border Guard officers from the Joint Polish-German Post in Świecko, who also carry out routine checks to prevent illegal migration, on Saturday (March 18) stopped a passenger car with German registration numbers on one of the streets in Słubice. It was led by a 52-year-old Iraqi national who assisted 6 Afghan nationals in illegally crossing the state border. The foreigners had Afghan passports, but they did not have documents entitling them to enter and stay on the territory of Poland and to cross the state border. Afghans were detained for trying to cross the border from Poland to Germany without the required documents. They pleaded guilty to the charges against them and exercised their right to plead guilty. All received sentences of 3 months imprisonment with a conditional suspension of 1 year. The 52-year-old driver of the vehicle was detained for helping 6 migrants attempting to illegally cross the state border from Poland to Germany. Further actions against the detained citizen of Iraq are underway. For assisting in crossing the state border against the law in cooperation with other persons, an Iraqi citizen is liable to imprisonment for up to 3 years.
