Smuggling of Goods – pharmaceuticals, booze/alcohol and tobacco

Border police officers from the Satu Mare Territorial Service of the Border Police carried out an action to combat cigarette smuggling in the area of ​​responsibility.

Thus, at around 9.10 am, our colleagues identified in traffic, within the Ardud locality, Satu Mare county, a car registered in Hungary, which was suspected of transporting cigarettes. Since, the driver did not stop, continuing his journey, the border police proceeded to pursue him in traffic. Subsequently, at the entrance to Bocșa locality, Sălaj county, our officers managed to block and stop the means of transport.

Following the inspection of the vehicle, several bulky cardboard boxes were discovered in the back seat of the vehicle, as well as cigarette cartridges, partially covered with a piece of black material. Also, boxes containing cigarettes were found in the trunk.  

Given that the person in question was unable to present documents regarding the origin of the cigarettes, he and the car were taken to the institution’s headquarters. Following the inventory of the goods inside the vehicle, the quantity of 7,500 packs of cigarettes, of duty-free origin, resulted.

The entire quantity of cigarettes, worth a total of 145,000 lei, was seized for confiscation. At the same time, the vehicle, estimated at a value of 25,000 lei, was impounded at the institution’s headquarters for further investigations.
