Two fugitives wanted by Italian authorities for drug trafficking arrested in Malaga
Spanish National Police officers, in a joint operation with the Italian State Police, have arrested two fugitives in the province of Malaga who were wanted by Italian authorities for drug trafficking. The detainees, a father and son, were subject to European arrest warrants issued by Italy for drug trafficking, with penalties of up to 30 years in prison. The events for which the father and son were wanted occurred between August 2020 and December 2021, when both were involved in a criminal organization importing, transporting, and selling large quantities of narcotics, including cocaine, marijuana, and hashish.
Both were responsible for promoting, organizing, and distributing the substances from Malaga, operating for a criminal organization. They were also responsible for introducing the illicitly obtained money into legal trafficking by investing it in various businesses, imitating the “Hawala” system, with the profit obtained from drug sales totaling one and a half million euros.
Following these events, the Italian authorities issued European warrants against the suspects, initiating an investigation with the Italian police to locate and arrest both men.
Following the progress of the investigation, both targets were able to focus on the cities of Malaga and Torremolinos. Once they were located, and the father and son were simultaneously in Spain and carrying out work for the criminal organization, arrangements were made with the Italian authorities to issue European arrest warrants and surrender warrants in a coordinated manner. The arrest was made possible after surveillance and monitoring operations were established at the fugitives’ homes and was carried out in the early hours of May 20. With the two arrests, the Malaga-based branch of the criminal organization has been dismantled.
The arrests were carried out as part of an international operation against drug trafficking between Italian authorities and the National Police.
