Two Romanian citizens arrested for migrant smuggling

Romanian and Bulgarian border police officers, on mission on DN 5, stopped two cars registered in Romania for control. At the wheel were two Romanian citizens, aged 37 and 50, respectively, who were transporting six men who did not have travel documents.

Following the checks, the passengers verbally declared that they were citizens of states outside the European Union – Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria. Furthermore, an identity card apparently issued by the Spanish authorities was discovered on the Iranian citizen, which turned out to be forged, not meeting the legal requirements of form and substance of an authentic document.

Also, since there were suspicions that one of the drivers was under the influence of prohibited substances, the support of the police officers from the Giurgiu Road Office was requested. Following preliminary testing with the provided device, indications emerged regarding the possible presence of psychoactive substances in the body. According to legal procedures, the man was taken to the Giurgiu County Emergency Hospital for the collection of biological samples. In this case, a criminal case was drawn up for the crime of driving a vehicle under the influence of psychoactive substances.

Given the findings and based on the Readmission Agreement, the foreign citizens were handed over to the Bulgarian border authorities.
