On October 19 in Lipowica (Krosno district) in the Polish Podkarpacie region, border guards selected an Iveco vehicle to be checked. The driver of the car was a 31-year-old citizen of Ukraine. During the checking of the cargo space, 23 foreigners were revealed, including women and children. Most of them did not have any documents, the rest had only Turkish ID cards. They were citizens of Syria and Turkey, including 5 women and 9 men (aged 18 to 62) and nine children (aged 2 to 17). They had travelled in terrible conditions, in a crush, in a cargo space which was a refrigerator. A journey that in such conditions could end tragically for them.
The immigrants were transported to the facility in Sanok. Officers from the Border Guard helped tired and cold immigrants, as well as provided safe and comfortable conditions, which is especially important in the case of such young children. The foreigners received hot meals and drinks. Border guards also organized a fundraiser for warm clothes, toys, sweets and diapers for children.
The immigrants testified that the smugglers had promised to transport them to Germany. They paid 700 euros for this leg of the journey. In turn, Turkish citizens paid for a route from their country to Germany for 5,000. euro each.
