A new border police vessel of the GDGP will raise its flag today

The official ceremony of raising the flag and assigning the name “Balchik” with ship number 524 to a new border police ship will take place today, June 7 at the quay in front of the Maritime Station – Burgas.

This is the first vessel received in 13 years as a result of the project “Delivery of Border Police Patrol Vessel – Equipment for FRONTEX” implemented by the General Directorate of Border Police, financed under a grant contract from the Indicative Annual Work Program 2018 of the “Internal Security” Fund. In the implementation of the project, a public procurement was held and a contract was signed between the State Police and Baltic Workboats AS, Estonia. According to the concluded contract, the funds for the delivery of the border police patrol vessel are in the amount of BGN 30,580,851 .

The border patrol vessel, built at the Baltic Workboats shipyard, is intended both for surveillance of the maritime state border of the Republic of Bulgaria and for participation in joint operations of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency. At the end of April 2023, it was delivered, training was carried out for employees of the DG “Border Police” in the operation and maintenance of its machines, mechanisms, systems and equipment, and in mid-May the vessel was accepted and registered in the state of Glavna “Border Police” Directorate.
