Bulgarian Customs officers seized cigarette blanks hidden in a truck with wet wipes

Bulgarian Customs officers from TD Rousse Customs seized 175 365 blanks for cigarette boxes and 112 coils of corcofan (filter paper) during an inspection of a truck in the area of the Danube bridge near Vidin.

On 15.10.2023, around 6:00 p.m., in the area of the Danube Bridge 2 – Vidin – Calafat BCP, customs officers stopped for inspection a truck leaving the country, driven by a Bulgarian citizen. According to the bill of lading presented by the driver, he transported 33 pallets of wet wipes from Bulgaria to the Netherlands. During the customs inspection, it was found that only the outer rows of pallets in the cargo contained cartons with packs of wet wipes. In 10 of the inner pallets, cartons were found identically labeled for wet wipes, but containing blanks for cigarette packs and coils of filter paper for the manufacture of cigarettes.

A total of 175 365 blanks for cigarette boxes and 112 coils of corcofan (filter paper) were found, all with world trade mark inscriptions. They are detained on suspicion of infringing intellectual property rights. Work on the case continues.
