Contraband cigarettes worth approximately 2.3 million euros, discovered at PTF Giurgiu, Romania

At the Giurgiu Border Crossing Point, a 53-year-old Bulgarian citizen presented himself to enter the country, driving a road combination consisting of a tractor and a semi-trailer. According to the documents presented, the driver was transporting glass containers from Bulgaria to the Czech Republic.

Based on the risk analysis, the border police carried out a thorough check on his cargo. Thus, in the cargo compartment, 900 boxes containing 9,000,000 contraband cigarettes were discovered hidden by the lid method.

The cigarettes , worth a total of approximately 2.3 million euros (11,250,000 lei) were confiscated, and the border police are still investigating the criminal case, under the coordination of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Giurgiu Court.
