Customs detects hidden ammunition in vehicle in Cardenal Samoré, Chile

Officials from the National Customs Service detected various ammunition, and a shotgun, during the inspection of a vehicle entering the country through the Cardenal Samoré Border Complex in the Los Lagos Region.

The procedure took place while inspectors from the Osorno Customs Administration were carrying out an inspection of a car that wanted to enter Chile.

For this reason, and in accordance with their powers, the officials carried out a thorough review, finding articles prohibited in the country, as stipulated by Law 17.798 on arms control.

The discovery allowed the detection of 20 Hornady Superformance brand .243 Win caliber ammunition; 17 Hornady brand .243 Win caliber ammunition, both unfired, and one Orbea brand 12 gauge shotgun cartridge.

The background of the procedure, the seized species were handed over to the Carabineros of the area, in accordance with the protocols established for this type of finding.

Between January and June of this year, the Osorno Customs Administration has seized 572 rounds of ammunition and two firearms, constituting 34% more than in 2025 during the same period.
