Detained two smugglers who helped seven illegal migrants from Afghanistan to reach Germany

April and May, officers of the Border Guard Post from Zgorzelec detained two smugglers who helped seven illegal migrants from Afghanistan to reach Germany. In addition to suspended prison sentences, the “couriers” were immediately expelled from our country.

On April 30, Zgorzelec Border Guard officers, while performing duties in the area of the border bridge, noticed two men getting out of a Fiat car and running across the bridge towards the border with Germany. Border Guard officers immediately drove to the place of the incident and identified the driver of the Fiat, who turned out to be a 26-year-old citizen of Belarus. Border guards also contacted German policemen, who confirmed that they had detained two men from Afghanistan. A Belarusian admitted trying to help two illegal migrants get to Germany. The man was detained, charged with helping two Afghans illegally cross the Polish-German border, and exercised his right to voluntarily submit to a suspended six-month prison sentence. Additionally, a fine of PLN 1,500 and forfeiture of financial benefits derived from the crime in the amount of PLN 800 were imposed. Additionally, the man received a decision resulting in his immediate expulsion from Poland. As a result, the man was escorted by Border Guard officers to the Polish-Belarusian border crossing and handed over to the services there.

On May 2, Border Guard officers from Zgorzelec on the A4 highway, after sending a BMW passenger car for inspection, stopped the driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old Ukrainian, who, while going to Germany, intended to help five Afghans illegally cross the Polish-German border. The migrants did not have documents confirming the legality of their stay in Poland. They were detained for trying to cross the Polish-German border without the required documents. Until the decision obliging the Afghans to return was issued, the men were placed under the supervision of the Border Guard. However, a young Ukrainian was detained for helping migrants in organizing the crossing of the Polish-German border, contrary to the regulations. The suspect pleaded guilty to the charges against him and exercised his right to voluntarily submit to a suspended prison sentence of 6 months. Additionally, a decision was issued to oblige the man to return immediately. The Ukrainian was taken to the Polish-Ukrainian border crossing, where he was handed over to the local services.
