Foreign citizens discovered hidden in a truck carrying metal barriers by border police
On the evening of 2 February 2026, a joint border-security operation on DN 5 led to the discovery of two undocumented migrants concealed inside a Turkish‑registered freight vehicle. The action was carried out by officers from the Giurgiu Border Police Territorial Service and the Giurgiu Border Police Sector, working in coordination with their Bulgarian counterparts from the Ruse Border Police Sector.
According to officials, the truck—driven by a Turkish citizen—was travelling on the Turkey–Romania route and was declared to be transporting metal barriers. During routine checks, border police noticed that the security cord on the cargo compartment had been broken, prompting a more detailed inspection of the vehicle.
A thorough search of the semi‑trailer led to the discovery of two individuals of Afro‑Asian origin, who were found hiding among the goods being transported.
Under the provisions of the Cooperation Plan between the Romanian and Bulgarian Border Police, a cross‑border meeting was subsequently held. During this handover procedure, the Turkish driver, the two migrants, and the vehicle used in the attempted illegal border crossing were transferred to the Bulgarian authorities for further investigation.
