Joint Romania-Bulgaria action: two Turkish drivers arrested for migrant smuggling
The Giurgiu border police, in collaboration with the Bulgarian ones, stopped a Turkish-registered bus on DN 5 for inspection, which was traveling on the Turkey-Germany route. At the wheel of the bus was a Turkish citizen, accompanied by a backup driver.
After checking the vehicle, in the drivers’ rest compartment, the police identified a specially designed place, where two male persons, aged 47 and 58, were hiding. The persons in question did not have travel documents and did not meet the legal conditions for entry into Romania.
Given the findings, the border police are conducting investigations into the commission of the crimes of migrant smuggling and fraudulent crossing of the state border , according to the provisions of the Criminal Code, and upon completion of the investigations, legal solutions will be proposed through the prosecutor’s office.
The two migrants as well as the means of transport used were handed over to the Bulgarian border authorities for further investigation.
