Migrants stopped from illegally travelling to Europe by Romanian border police

In a coordinated effort, Romanian and Bulgarian border police conducted a routine inspection near the Calafat-Vidin Bridge toll station, where they stopped a vehicle travelling from Bulgaria to Romania.

The vehicle, driven by a Romanian citizen, contained four individuals: one Romanian and three foreign nationals hailing from Iran, Turkey, and Morocco. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the foreign passengers possessed asylum seeker documents issued by Bulgarian authorities.

Further inquiries by the border police uncovered that the Romanian driver was allegedly involved in transporting foreign citizens to Western European countries in exchange for monetary compensation.

In accordance with the Joint Action Plan established between the Romanian and Bulgarian border police, the foreign nationals were transferred to the Bulgarian authorities for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding their transport. This incident underscores ongoing challenges in human trafficking and the importance of cross-border cooperation in law enforcement.
