More than 890,000 packets of illegal tobacco seized in Seville

The Spanish Civil Guard, in collaboration with the Casariche Local Police, has managed to deal a severe blow to tobacco smuggling in an operation that has resulted in the seizure of more than 890,000 packets without the legal seals required in Spain.

Local Police officers intercepted a van in the Santa Bárbara industrial estate carrying 15,000 packets of cigarettes. After identifying the driver, who was arrested, joint efforts were made with the Civil Guard to find out the origin of the goods.

Following the investigation, the industrial warehouse from which the intercepted vehicle came was identified. The agents detected signs that there could be more illegal tobacco stored inside, which led to an inspection of the place. Although the tenant of the warehouse initially tried to delay access, the authorities’ actions allowed them to enter the premises, finding 12 pallets inside containing a total of 877,650 packs of different brands.

The total value of the tobacco seized, including the packets transported in the van, exceeds 4.9 million euros.
