On the Polish-Belarusian border in the Lublin Voivodeship, work is underway to build an electronic barrier on the Bug border river
At the current stage of the investment, the works are being carried out in the Włodawa district. On the Polish bank of the Bug River, the area is being cleared of trees and shrubs. On the prepared area, camera poles are being set up and the power and transmission installation is being installed.
The length of the electronic barrier running in its entirety on this section within the range of the Nadbużański Border Guard Unit will be approximately 172 km. It will consist of, among others, approximately 1,800 camera poles, approximately 4,500 day-night and thermal imaging cameras, and special sensors ensuring detection of various physical features of objects. It is planned to install approximately 200 km of power cables and the same number of transmission cables, as well as to place approximately 10 telecommunications containers. The barrier supervision center will be located at the NOSG Headquarters in Chełm. The barrier will also include seven end stations located on the premises of the unit. Additionally, the system is to be integrated with the existing observation towers and the Border Guard telecommunications network.
The electronic barrier on the Bug River will ensure detection of incidents related to border crime, in particular illegal migration and smuggling of goods. The architecture and method of operation of the constructed security will ensure automated continuity and effectiveness of monitoring and protection of the state border, as well as recognition, identification of threats and their perpetrators, collection of evidence and taking actions precisely targeted at apprehending perpetrators. The electronic barrier has been designed so that its range of operation covers the entire planned length of the border with Belarus on the border river, without the occurrence of dead zones, taking into account the existing forms of terrain, standing and flowing surface waters and vegetation. Thanks to this, Border Guard officers will receive a tool for protecting the state border detecting incidents related to crossing the border and enabling 24-hour observation of the border road strip.
The investment on the Bug River is being carried out by a consortium of companies Elektrotim SA from Wrocław and Ostoya-DataSystem Sp. z oo from Gdańsk. The amount exceeding PLN 279 million was contracted for the execution of the works planned under the agreement within 12 months and the provision of warranty services for a period of 109 months.
The investment is co-financed by the European Union: the Financial Support Instrument for Border Management and Visa Policy under the Integrated Border Management Fund for 2021-2027
