Over half a million cigarettes were seized by police during special operations in Haskovsko and Pernik

More than 502,000 pieces of excise-free tobacco products were seized by police officers from the ODMVR – Haskovo during an operation to counter the storage and distribution of excise goods without a label in Svilengrad. Economic police officers checked a garage owned by a 53-year-old man, where they found 498,800 short duty-free cigarettes of various brands and 3,450 cigars. The owner handed them over to the investigators in the fast-track proceedings. At the same time, in Harmanli, during an inspection of a property, 420 short cigarettes were found, which the 70-year-old owner handed over to the inspectors. The man was charged under the Act on Excise Taxes and Tax Warehouses.

Another nearly 24,000 short contraband cigarettes were also seized during an operation in Pernik. In the course of a specialized police operation, officers from the “Combating economic crime” sector at the ODMVR – Pernik and their colleagues from the Second RU checked several addresses in the “Iztok” quarter. The tobacco products of various brands, without an excise label, were found in a basement used by a 44-year-old resident of Perni. The man, who is convicted and known to the police and with other similar acts, was detained for a period of up to 24 hours. A pre-trial proceeding was established under Art. 234, para. 1 of the Criminal Code and the investigation continues under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
