Polish Border Guard officers intercept foreigners illegally crossing the Polish border 

On February 6th, officers from the Rutka-Tartak Border Guard Station detained four foreigners (two Ethiopian citizens and two Somali citizens) in the town of Majdan who had illegally crossed the border from Lithuania into Poland. A Lithuanian citizen who had come to pick up the foreigners was also detained. The migrants were handed over to Lithuania under a simplified readmission procedure. The Lithuanian citizen was temporarily arrested by court order.  

On Saturday, February 7th, officers from the Rutka-Tartak Border Guard Station near the town of Sadzawki discovered 12 foreigners. During the investigation, they were identified as two Sudanese citizens, five Bangladeshis, three Somalis, one Indian citizen, and one Malian citizen. They were carrying permits from a refugee center in Latvia. The migrants were transported to the Lithuanian-Polish border by a courier. They illegally crossed the border from Lithuania into Poland on foot. They were then supposed to be transported deeper into Europe by a bus driver who was waiting for them near the location where they were discovered. The driver turned out to be a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen. The driver was ordered to return to his country of origin and banned from entering Poland and the Schengen area for 10 years. A court today (February 9th) ordered the man to be temporarily arrested for three months. He faces up to eight years in prison.
