Record-breaking seizure in Giurgiu: Border police removed approximately 64,000 potentially counterfeit goods from the illegal circuit
Border police officers from the Giurgiu Border Police Sector, as part of a BLITZ-type action, stopped for inspection a freight truck registered in Romania, which was transporting textiles.
The vehicle was traveling on the Turkey-Romania route and was driven by a 49-year-old Turkish citizen.
After checking the travel documents, consulting the e-DAC application, and analyzing the documents accompanying the goods, the border guards found that the declared value of the goods did not justify the transportation costs, which is why they decided to carry out additional checks.
At the same time, during the inspection, it was found that the semi-trailer’s safety cord was not inserted through the locking system. After opening it, the police discovered, in white bags, a considerable quantity of goods that could be counterfeit.
Subsequently, a mixed control team was formed , consisting of border police officers from the Giurgiu Border Police Sector and Territorial Service, as well as customs workers from the Giurgiu Interior Customs Office and the Giurgiu Mobile Teams Service, from the Bucharest Regional Customs Directorate, in order to carry out a thorough check of the truck.
Following the checks, 63,901 items of clothing, leather goods and footwear were discovered , all inscribed with the names of protected trademarks, with a total value estimated at 18,740,390 lei .
The entire quantity of goods was detained by customs workers for further investigation.
