Seven arrested for smuggling hashish into Melilla by throwing it over the fence from Moroccan territory

The Spanish Civil Guard has arrested seven people who formed a criminal network that coordinated hashish trafficking by throwing balls containing the drug over the Melilla border fence from Moroccan territory.

This method, known as “overturning,” involves smuggling the drugs in by throwing spherical packages over the fence. Once on our territory, the packages are collected by minors who use electric scooters and taxis to transport the hashish to the criminal group’s safe houses.

The members of the criminal organization contacted Moroccans who prepared the drugs in African territory, wrapping them in compact, medium-sized plastic packages, spherical in shape to facilitate their launching and subsequent location.

The leaders, residents of Melilla, coordinated the arrangements to establish the exact location, date, and time of the shipments. For collection, they used electric scooters and taxis to transport the drugs to their storage facilities.

The operation, dubbed “Remisse,” resulted in the arrest of seven individuals with prior criminal records. A total of 43 crimes have been solved. During several house searches, 56 kilos of hashish, a car valued at €30,000, a taxi, various scooters, mobile phones, and documents relevant to the investigation were seized.
