Six migrants detected in a freight truck by Mehedinte border police

Border police officers from the Mehedinți Territorial Service of the Border Police, in cooperation with police officers from the Drobeta Turnu Severin Border Police Sector, stopped a semi-trailer truck for inspection in the locality of Hinova, based on operational information.

After the stop, the vehicle was taken to the Mehedinți Border Police Territorial Service headquarters for thorough checks. On this occasion, six Moroccan citizens aged between 20 and 30 were identified inside the semi-trailer, without documents allowing them to travel within the Schengen area.

The six men were handed over to the Dolj Territorial Service of the Border Police and, yesterday, May 9, were returned to the Bulgarian authorities, in accordance with the provisions of the Readmission Agreement.

The truck driver was detained for 24 hours and is under investigation for committing the crimes of migrant smuggling and illegal border crossing.
