Spanish Civil Guard seized more than 2,100 kilos of hashish at the port of Algeciras

The Spanish Civil Guard and Customs Surveillance officials of the Tax Agency have seized more than 2,100 kilos of hashish in the port of Algeciras.

On November 9th, during the exercise of the fiscal and customs control functions carried out by the cabotage agents on the vehicles arriving in Algeciras from Tangier (Morocco), anomalies were observed in the structure of the lowers and beams of a trailer that presented unusual welds, finishes and configuration.

Based on the suspicions, a drug-sniffing dog was used to inspect the vehicle, and the dog clearly indicated the suspicious area. A thorough inspection of the trailer’s undercarriage revealed a new method of drug concealment: the use of the semi-trailer’s lower beams and structures as a false bottom or hollow beam to conceal hashish resin, making it difficult to detect during a standard inspection.

As a result of the analysis, control, identification and inspection work of vehicles, which the agents carry out daily in the port of Algeciras, they detected another 5 vehicles with similar characteristics and after being inspected it was found that they also transported hidden hashish.

In total, six trucks have been intercepted using the same concealment method, which consists of using the beams and lower structures of the semi-trailers, modifying them to create false bottoms or replacing them with hollow beams, in order to introduce hashish resin.

The total amount of hashish seized amounts to 2,133 kilos.
