Ten migrants discovered by Dolj border police in a truck
Romanian Border police officers from the Giurgiu Border Police Territorial Inspectorate, in collaboration with their Bulgarian counterparts, conducted a routine inspection in the parking lot near the Calafat-Vidin toll station. The officers stopped a truck registered in Turkey, driven by a 61-year-old Turkish citizen en route from Turkey to Germany, reportedly carrying metal profiles.
Upon a thorough examination of the vehicle, authorities uncovered ten foreign nationals hidden within the cargo compartment. The individuals, who were identified as coming from various countries including Turkey, Morocco, Iran, Iraq, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Syria, were immediately taken into custody.
Following established protocols under the cooperation plan between the Romanian and Bulgarian border police, a border meeting was convened shortly after the discovery. The Turkish driver, along with the ten migrants and the truck, were subsequently transferred to Bulgarian authorities for further investigation.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges in managing cross-border migration and the collaborative efforts of border control agencies in addressing these issues.
