The Spanish National Police receives a delegation of 19 border specialists to demonstrate police cooperation practices

Lats week the Spanish National Police received a delegation of 19 border specialists, from Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, to demonstrate police cooperation practices on border matters. This is a visit that is part of the European international cooperation program EUROFRONT with which the FIIAPP makes available to Latin American countries the knowledge and experience of National Police agents in border management.

The delegation made up of 19 border specialists from Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay visited the Adolfo Suárez-Madrid Barjas Airport on Monday to learn about techniques for identifying and dealing with different crimes at the border post. They have also attended two joint operations, one maritime in international waters between Spain and Portugal and another land operation to learn first-hand about the cooperation strategies of the Comprehensive Border System of the European Union.

Another of the activities related to border management that they have been able to learn about has been the Atenas Point, a National Police system shared with other security forces for the detection of falsified documents. In this way, the delegation has been able to learn first-hand about the work against cross-border crime carried out by the National Police in Madrid, Vigo and in the Pontevedra town of Tui.

Borders, strategic points of cooperation

This activity has been organized by EUROFRONT, a cooperation program financed by the EU and jointly managed by the FIIAPP (International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies), the IILA (Organizzazione Internazionale Italo-Latinoamericana) and the IOM (International Organization for Migrations). Since 2020, EUROFRONT has had the participation of agents from the Spanish National Police, among other institutions, to exchange knowledge and strategies with their Latin American counterparts.

This knowledge exchange carried out between regions is part of the methodology implemented by EUROFRONT. The program develops its action with seven partner countries on a national dimension, but pays special attention to promoting the regional dimension, facilitating collective work between countries, the production of common tools and work in supranational alliances and networks.
