Lithuanian Prime Minister Inspects Physical Barrier Under Construction With Belarus
“We evaluate the works and monitor the situation regularly. It is gratifying that other contractors have been actively involved, so it must be assumed that this project will be completed on time and in accordance with the financial plan. It is very important that cameras will be installed along the entire length of the border this year, “said the Prime Minister.
The Concertina Barrier is already installed in all the most sensitive and most migratory sections of the border, and the total length of this barrier is already about 200 kilometers. Every day, this barrier lengthens by another 3 kilometers. At the border, next to the concert barrier, 4-meter-high segments of the fence are currently being installed. The work is being carried out by about 600 workers building the dam. The companies performing the work at the border have concentrated more than 100 technical units: pilers, excavators, loaders, tractors, lifting platforms and other equipment.
The construction of the concertina was completed at the beginning of this year in the sections of the first stage of the project – Druskininkai, A. Barauskas, Adutiškis, Kabeliai and Kapčiamiestis border barriers. Due to the large number of illegal migrants, it was decided to install the concert pyramid first. The fence segments in the first phase sections must be installed by April 30, and the entire physical barrier of more than 500 kilometers on the border with Belarus will be installed by September.
When installing a physical barrier near the state border, a concert pyramid of 5 or 6 spirals is built, and fence segments are installed next to the concert side on the Lithuanian side. Fence segments manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the SBGS, which are resistant to adverse weather conditions and the effects of soil, are attached to the recessed poles. A concertina spiral is attached to the top of the fence, and the total height of the fence with the spiral is 4 meters.
Last Friday, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė visited the A. Barauskas border barrier in Varėna district. During the visit, General Rustamas Liubajev, Commander of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS), and representatives of EPSO-G, the company implementing the physical barrier project, presented the progress of work at the border to the Prime Minister.
