Bulgarian Customs officers at Kapitan Andreevo BCP found marijuana worth over BGN 158,000

Nearly 40 kg of marijuana were found by the customs officers of the Kapitan Andreevo BCP during an inspection of a truck.

On 03/02/2023, a truck with Bulgarian registration arrived at the checkpoint in the direction of the Republic of Turkey. The driver – a Bulgarian citizen, stated that he was traveling from Bulgaria to Turkey without cargo and had no personal belongings, goods or currency values to declare.

The vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection where 64 machine-sealed and vacuum-sealed polythene bags containing dry green grassy mass were found in the mattresses of the driver’s cab rest beds. A field drug test was performed, which showed a reaction to marijuana. The narcotic substance has a total gross weight of 39,550 kg, worth BGN 158,200.
