Bulgarian Customs officers at Lesovo BCP discovered methamphetamine in a hidden compartment of a car

Customs officers at Lesovo BCP discovered a package containing 266 grams of methamphetamine in a cache of a Ukrainian-registered car. The high-risk drug was seized during joint actions by officers from the Customs Intelligence and Investigation and Drug Trafficking departments.

The vehicle arrived at the Lesovo border checkpoint on 19.07.2026 on an incoming route into the country on a route from Turkey to Ukraine. The car was driven by a man with dual citizenship – Ukrainian and Russian. He was traveling alone and in the customs control area he announced that he had nothing to declare. After a risk analysis, the car was selected for a thorough customs inspection. During the control actions, the inspectors discovered a specially adapted cache with a lid in the luggage compartment of the car. A vacuum package containing a crystalline substance was found in the cache, which reacted to methamphetamine during the field drug test.

The synthetic drug weighing 266 grams was seized. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case, which are being conducted by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the Yambol District Prosecutor’s Office.
