Nearly 195 kg of marijuana were found during a joint specialized police operation conducted by officers of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and the National Customs Agency on September 1, 2025, at the Kapitan Andreevo BCP.
This was announced at a joint briefing in Haskovo by Ivan Stoyanov, the District Prosecutor, Emil Borisov, deputy director of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime – Ministry of Interior, Atanas Kurtov, Head of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime for Southern Bulgaria, Stefan Bakalov, Head of the Drug Enforcement Department of the National Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate at the Customs Agency, and Filip Nikolov, Head of the Kapitan Andreevo BCP.
On September 1, 2025, at Kapitan Andreev BCP, in Haskovo region, a truck with a semi-trailer, driven by N.R., arrived for exit from the Republic of Bulgaria towards the Republic of Turkey. The vehicle was redirected for a thorough customs check by the officers of the National Customs Agency, during which a special hidden compartment in the semi-trailer was found to contain 173 plastic bags with dry green leafy material. The field drug test reacted positive for marijuana with a total weight of 194.102 kilograms. The narcotic substance was discovered during a specialized police operation conducted at the Kapitan Andreevo BCP by officers of the Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime of the Ministry of Interior and the National Customs Agency, under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Haskovo. The value of the discovered marijuana is BGN 3,105,632, clarified Ivan Stoyanov, the district prosecutor.
Emil Borisov, Deputy Director of the Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime of the Ministry of Interior, commented that numerous operational actions were conducted between August 30 and September 1, during which a trailer coming from Romania through Vidin was tracked, whose tractor unit was replaced in the territory of the country and the composition headed towards Turkey.
The cargo vehicle was inspected through scanning, during which a hidden compartment in the trailer was discovered, specified Stefan Bakalov, Head of the Drug Enforcement Department at the National Customs Agency. The District Prosecutor’s Office – Haskovo has charged N.R., a 55-year-old Serbian citizen, for attempting to transport a highly dangerous narcotic substance – marijuana with a total gross weight of 194.102 kg worth BGN 3,105,632, across the border from the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Turkey using a cargo truck with a trailer on September 1, 2025, at the “Captain Andrevo” border checkpoint, without the necessary permit.
