Nearly 54,000 cigarettes with Bulgarian labels were seized during four checks

During an inspection of a car traveling to France, another 17,680 cigarettes with a Bulgarian excise label were found.

Customs officials from the “Combating Drug Trafficking” Department at the TD Customs Rousse found nearly 54,000 cigarettes with a Bulgarian excise label during four checks in the Danube Bridge-Ruse BCP and the Danube Bridge-Vidin BCP over the weekend.
Tobacco products were found in one cargo van and three passenger cars with Bulgarian drivers traveling to Western Europe in the period February 17-19, 2023. The vehicles were sent for customs checks, during which a total of 53,640 cigarettes were found (2686 packs) of cigarettes with a Bulgarian excise label in the personal luggage and factory cavities of the cars. For the transported tobacco products, the required documents according to the Law on Excises and Tax Warehouses were not presented, therefore the cigarettes were seized, and acts were drawn up for the established administrative violations.


Meanwhile, on 22.02.2023, the officers of the “Combating Drug Trafficking Ruse” Sector are conducting an inspection in the area of the Danube Bridge – Ruse BCP of a passenger car with foreign registration and a driver – a Bulgarian citizen traveling to France. A total of 17,680 cigarettes (844 packs) with a Bulgarian excise label were found in travel bags and in the backrests of the back seats. The tobacco products were confiscated, and an act was drawn up for the administrative violation.
