Over 260,000 pieces contraband cigarettes, hidden in furniture, were discovered by the Bukgarian customs officers
On 23.05.2023, a truck with a foreign registration arrived on the inbound route of the customs point. The driver – a Bulgarian citizen – presents regular documents for the transported goods – furniture from Turkey to France.
According to the “risk analysis” method, the vehicle is selected for a thorough customs inspection, including an X-ray. During the subsequent physical control, 13,440 boxes (268,800 pieces) of cigarettes with a Turkish excise label were found in the declared goods – at the bottom of sofas and in double-wall cabinets. Tobacco products worth BGN 84,627 were seized.
In this case, a pre-trial proceeding was initiated by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Haskovo.
