President Visits the Lithuanian Border
On Monday, President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda visited the headquarters of the Vilnius Border Guard Team of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS). The President met with the Minister of the Interior, SBGS, heads, officials and soldiers of the Public Security Service, the Police, the Fire Protection and Rescue Department, the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union.
During the visit, the President thanked and expressed support to Lithuanian officials and soldiers, as well as to FRONTEX officials who had come to patrol the country. “Your difficult service in guarding the state border is critical in repelling a hybrid attack against Lithuania. Thank you for your professionalism and efforts in protecting the European Union’s external border, “said the President.
During the meeting, the President discussed the situation in Belarus with the Minister of the Interior Agne Bilotaitė, the Commander of the SBGS Rusta Liubajev, the Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Valdemar Rupšis, the Commissioner General of the Police Renatas Požėla, the Commander of the Public Security Service Ričards Pocius, the Lithuanian Albert Dapkumi.
At the meeting, the President expressed support for the legislative initiatives initiated by the Ministry of National Defense, which aim to strengthen the powers of soldiers guarding the border, which would create preconditions for even more effective protection of the state border.
