“The urgent installation of a physical barrier at the state border with Belarus is necessary not only for the effective protection of the state border, but also for ensuring the vital interests of national security, and it is of great strategic importance. Illegal migration, which Lithuania is facing today, is a burden on our country, and the physical barrier is one of the most important means of eliminating the emergency situation, so this task must be completed as soon as possible. It is important that different political parties also support this decision, national security is the most important thing at the moment, ”says the Minister of the Interior Agnė Bilotaitė.

The main purpose of the draft law is to create the necessary legal, financial and organizational conditions for the urgent installation of a physical barrier, to create an effective mechanism for decision-making and organization of the necessary work.

The Government will make essential decisions on the installation of the physical barrier, the project client and the project executor, their functions, specific locations, the most important engineering requirements of the physical barrier, terms of work, financing procedures and other essential aspects and conditions related to the project.

The project of installing a physical barrier will be recognized as a project of special state importance.
