The Bulgarian Drug Enforcement Agency (GDBOP) is conducting a specialized police operation against a criminal group for international drug trafficking and distribution in the territory of the Blagoevgrad and Kyustendil districts.

During the operation, a man identified as the group’s courier was arrested. He was detained just outside the Kulata border checkpoint, shortly after 3 a.m. this morning, while attempting to smuggle over half a kilogram of narcotics (gross weight 0.530 kg), which tested positive for heroin upon field testing.

The operation is being carried out under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Blagoevgrad, following pre-trial proceedings against a criminal group for international trafficking of narcotics – mainly cocaine and heroin, from the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Greece, as well as for distribution of narcotics in both regions.
