The Spanish Civil Guard intercepts a drug-running speedboat with three tons of hashish off the coast of Huelva

The Spanish Civil Guard has intercepted a speedboat carrying more than 3,000 kg of hashish off the coast of Mazagón, in the province of Huelva. The incident occurred on the morning of October 14th, after a suspicious vessel was detected by surveillance equipment.

An interception and boarding operation was immediately activated, coordinated with the participation of the Provincial Maritime Service of Huelva and a helicopter from the Civil Guard Air Service.

Once the vessel was located, officers visually confirmed that it was carrying numerous packages that appeared to be bales of hashish. Upon noticing the police presence, the vessel fled at high speed and began to maneuver erratically, seriously endangering both its occupants and the Civil Guard officers. At the same time, the occupants began throwing several jerrycans of gasoline into the sea.

Finally, the Guardia Civil’s interceptor vessel “Río Tietar” managed to reach the drug-running speedboat, making it possible to board it and arrest its eight crew members, as well as seize a total of 76 bales of hashish, weighing 3,040 kg. The semi-rigid boat, equipped with four high-powered engines, was also seized, along with several jerrycans of fuel that remained on board.

The entire crew has been arrested for a crime against public health, in its form of drug trafficking, a smuggling offense, a crime against collective security, in its form of “smuggling”, and a crime of serious disobedience to agents of authority.
