Three Iraqi citizens without valid documents to travel to the Schengen area, detected by Romanian Giurgiu border police

On January 3, 2026, around 14:00, during the BLITZ operation on DN 5, Romanian and Bulgarian border police conducted an inspection of a road vehicle registered in Moldova, consisting of a tractor unit and a semi-trailer. The vehicle was driven by a Moldovan citizen on the Azerbaijan-Moldova route.

Upon inspection, officers discovered three foreign nationals hidden in the semi-trailer, who lacked valid travel documents and did not meet the legal requirements for entry into Romania.

During questioning, the individuals identified themselves as Iraqi citizens, stating they had traveled from Iraq to Turkey a few days prior without a specific destination. In Turkey, they entered a truck park and concealed themselves in the semi-trailer of a parked truck by cutting the tarpaulin.
