Vehicle Stop Results in 2 U.S. Citizens Arrested for Narcotics & Human Smuggling

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested two United States citizens accused of both human and narcotic smuggling Thursday morning.

At approximately 7:45 a.m., El Centro Sector agents encountered a 2005 Dodge Magnum and conducted a vehicle stop on Interstate 10 near Jefferson St.

Agents interviewed the occupants of the vehicle and determined that two of them did not possess the proper documentation to be in the United States legally. All four individuals and the vehicle were transported to the Indio Station for further investigation.

At the station, agents searched the interior of the vehicle and discovered numerous blue pills inside of a sweater’s pocket. The pocket contained two clear bags of 250 pills which tested positive for fentanyl with an approximate street value of $6,250. Agents also discovered 4.22 grams of a white-crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, with an approximate street value of $168.80.

The driver and narcotics were turned over to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. The passenger, a 36-year-old man, and the two undocumented individuals, both adult male Mexican nationals, will be processed accordingly. The vehicle was seized as per El Centro Sector guidelines.
