Cigarettes worth over 720,000 lei, hidden in a truck, were discovered by border police in Calafat, Romania

On September 11, 2026, a truck consisting of a tractor unit and semi-trailer, registered in Bulgaria, traveling on the Bulgaria-Romania route, was selected for inspection.

It was driven by a 48-year-old Bulgarian citizen who, according to the documents presented, was transporting various goods, without having applied the customs seal to the compartment intended for the goods.

As a result of the expanded inspection, several cardboard boxes were discovered inside the trailer hidden among the transported goods, which contained cigarettes with a Bulgarian excise stamp, for which the driver could not present documents of origin.

Following the inventory, the total quantity of 24,198 packs of cigarettes (483,960 cigarettes), with an estimated value of approximately 725,940 lei, was found.
