Spanish Civil Guard seizes almost 2.5 tons of cocaine during the ORION VII operation against international drug trafficking
Spanish Civil Guard has participated, for the fourth time in a row and in coordination with the Intelligence Center against Terrorism and Organized Crime (CITCO), in the seventh edition of the Naval Campaign against Drug Trafficking ORION. Specifically, the Civil Guard has seized 2,471 kilos of cocaine and 30,515 kilos of hashish in the ports of Algeciras (Cádiz), Barcelona and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and even by boarding a merchant ship in Senegal waters.
In addition, 16.5 million euros in cash have been immobilized (Valencia) and 43 members of criminal networks linked to international drug and narcotic trafficking have been arrested. With all this, the Institution is consolidated in Colombia as a reference police force within the multilateral effort led by the Colombian Navy in the waters of the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea, in the fight against international trafficking of cocaine and related crimes. such as those of an economic nature (money laundering) and environmental (dumping of highly polluting waste into water courses).
Operation ORION VII
ORIÓN is the world’s largest operation against international cocaine trafficking in the maritime, river, air and land areas. During its seventh edition (May 15-June 30, 2021) it has had the action of 88 agencies and police and military forces from 38 countries, with a global result of 116 tons of cocaine, 95 tons of marijuana and 36 tons of hashish seized, having caused an economic loss to international drug trafficking networks estimated at 7.564 million dollars. In addition, 539 people have been arrested, 72 boats and 780 laboratories for the production of drugs and narcotics have been intervened.
