Tens of thousands of smuggled cigarettes discovered on roads near the border with Bulgaria
Romanian border police officers from the Giurgiu Border Police Sector stopped a car registered in Bulgaria, which was driving on DN 5. The vehicle was driven by a 25-year-old Bulgarian citizen.
Following the inspection of the team discovered several packs of cigarettes hidden and undeclared in specially arranged places in the trunk lining and under the front seats.
During their inventory, a total quantity of 13,320 cigarettes (666 packs of cigarettes) of various brands was found, which did not have a tax stamp applied and for which the driver did not have any documents of origin.
On 25.01.2025, at around 05:20, border police officers from the Giurgiu Border Police Sector stopped for inspection a van registered in Bulgaria, driven by a 29-year-old Bulgarian citizen. Following the inspection of the vehicle they discovered several packs of cigarettes in a specially arranged compartment in the floor of the minibus.
During their inventory, a total quantity of 51,240 cigarettes (2,562 packs of cigarettes) of various brands was found, which had Bulgarian tax stamps and for which the driver did not have any documents of origin.
The entire quantity of cigarettes ( 3228 packs of cigarettes), estimated at a value of approximately 98,040 lei , was confiscated by the border police and placed in the crime scene of the Border Police.
