Border Security United Nation Program Of Action And The Way Forward

Border security is a comprehensive framework of measures employed by a nation to protect it borders from illegal activities and external threats. It involves a combination of physical infrastructure, advanced surveillance technology intelligence sharing etc.

As part of United Nation mandate of enhancing Global Peace an international agreement to prevent combat and eradicate the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons, provide domestic legislation was reached by committee of Nations.

In this agreement, West Africa Action Network on Small Arms is proud to inform the global Community of the existing fact that United Nation, can liase with World Border Security congress which continues to play a critical role in eliminating Global Border Security threats which advances the United Nations Sustainable development goals especially in the area of peace, security and strong Institutions.

As one of the organisations and participant at this years United National Biennial meeting of states to review the policy made to advance the program of Action on Small Arms. It is easier for elephant to go through the eye of the needle than discourse use and Illegal proliferation on Small Arms without addressing issues of Border Insecurity as it is driven by vast porous, sophisticated terrain national criminal syndicate with experiences gathered from the BMS9 from1st June to 6th June 2026, International co-operation is vital for tracking border insecurity because modern threats such as terrorism, cybersecurity are highly mobile.

No Nation acting in isolation possess the resources or intelligence to neutralize these cross-border networks, co-operations from borders allow countries to track terrorist movement and monitor transborder crimes.

United Nation program of Action recognised International collaboration to ensure that both origin, transit and destination countries collaborate to disrupt the cause rather than merely managing the symptoms.

With the experiences gained from the last United Nation Biennial Conferences the United Nation can liase with the World border Security Congress to address interventions support capable of providing technical and operational assistance to states heavily affected by the proliferation of illegal and border security especially those physically impossible to monitor with manpower alone.

The global cost of Border insecurity is challenges to aggregated precisely but economic losses range into billions starting from illicit trafficking network, regional conflict displacing millions.

Moving forward Relevant Global authorities must unite to standardize protocols to facilitate global best practises capable of securing Border liked addressing resources and infrastructural deficits, technological limitation, encouraging intelligence led operation and involving local host communities in early waving and conflict resolution system. Let’s transform our Borders to gate of National and international opportunities and route to Global Peace and Implementation of United Nation Programme of Action on Small Arms (UNPoA) .
