Hungarian Police apprehend suspects trying to smuggling 11 Syrians in cars

A bodyguard made a report to the border police branch in Hercegszántó because he saw a taxi and a Volkswagen stopping on the side of the road on the outskirts of Csátalja, from which several people got out and then all ran into the forest. The two cars then drove off.

The patrols conducted a field search in the vicinity of the designated site, which resulted in the arrest of 11 illegal migrants. Foreigners declared themselves to be Syrian citizens, but they could not provide credible evidence of their identity or the legality of their stay in Hungary.

Suspected yellow taxi and gray Volkswagen drivers wanted to help border violators get to Western Europe illegally, so police began searching for vehicles. The gray car was taken into action by the uniforms in Bátmonostor, while the taxi was stopped by county detectives in Baja. The Budapest sister couple with cars were apprehended by the police.

The Department of Migration Affairs of the Bács-Kiskun County Police Headquarters launched an investigation against them on the basis of a well-founded suspicion of committing a crime of human trafficking. In the case of the suspects, investigators took the initiative for the prosecution to make a motion for their arrest, while illegal migrants were escorted back to the temporary security barrier after being questioned.
