The largest shipment of cocaine brought in by drug boats in southern Spain has been seized

The Spanish Civil Guard, within the framework of the IV Special Security Plan for Campo de Gibraltar promoted by the Ministry of the Interior, has seized seven tons of cocaine on a farm in Coria del Río (Seville).

This shipment was introduced into the peninsula using high-speed semi-rigid vessels known as “narco-boats”. It represents the largest shipment of this drug intercepted to date in the south of the peninsula introduced using this method.

Highly complex operation

The operation was carried out in the early hours of December 27, when agents detected two semi-rigid boats at the entrance to the Guadalquivir River that were suspected of carrying some type of narcotic substance.

Various air, sea and land resources were activated, and the aforementioned vessels were closely monitored, confirming that they were unloading a large quantity of bales which were later transported to a farm located in the town of Coria del Río (Seville) which was guarded with long weapons by the detainees.

Two buried maritime containers; cocaine and weapons of war

During the search of the property where the bales were unloaded, two underground caches consisting of two maritime containers were found, where the criminal organization stored various caches.

These containers were specifically adapted for this purpose, both for access and storage from the top.

During the operation, three people were arrested and, in addition to the drugs, three long firearms were seized – including an AK-47 assault rifle – and two stolen vehicles.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Regional Centre for Analysis and Intelligence against Drug Trafficking and Money Laundering (CRAIN), the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of Seville (UOPJ Seville) and the Central Operational Unit (UCO), with the support of the Rapid Action Group (GAR), the Coordination Section of the Andalusia Zone and the Southern Air Sector.

This action is a significant blow to the drug trafficking networks operating in the Guadalquivir River, highlighting the great comprehensive effort that the Civil Guard has been making in Andalusia to fight drug trafficking and money laundering organisations in the region, one of the main areas of entry for narcotics into Europe
