478 kilos of hashish seized hidden in a truck on the AP-15 in Navarra

The Spanish Civil Guard has arrested a person for a crime against public health of drug trafficking after locating 478 kilos of hashish hidden in a truck during a preventive operation carried out on the AP-15, at the height of Tiebas-Muruarte de Reta (Navarra).

The operation took place last Friday, September 11, at about 8:30 p.m., when Civil Guard officers from the Citizen Security Unit in Navarre, along with an agent from the Civil Guard’s Canine Service and Alex, a drug detection dog, were carrying out a preventive citizen security check at the AP-15 toll plaza.

During the operation, they identified the driver of a truck that appeared to be driving empty. This man displayed a nervous, evasive, and suspicious demeanor, which led the officers to conduct a more thorough inspection of the vehicle.

During the inspection, Alex, the German Shepherd drug-detecting dog, indicated the possible presence of narcotics in the lower part of the semi-trailer.

The officers then discovered that numerous large bags were hidden beneath the tipper body, taking advantage of the space between it and the lower structure where the axles are located. After asking the driver to raise the tipper, the officers found 15 bags concealed in this space, inside which they found different varieties of hashish.

The weight of the seized substance yielded a total of 478 kilograms of hashish, of which 113 kilos corresponded to Ice-O-Lator type hashish .

The drugs had been packaged in layers of insulating material and plastic and impregnated with strong-smelling substances. A significant amount of an alcohol-based substance had also been used to mask the drug’s odor and hinder its detection by trained dogs.

The driver was arrested for a crime against public health for drug trafficking and both the 478 kilos of hashish and the truck were seized.
